Sector Commander, Innocent Etuk, told our reporter in Calabar on Tuesday, that the exercise is part of preparations toward ensuring safer roads, effective traffic management and a significant reduction in road traffic crashes and other traffic-related traffic infractions across the state during the ember months.

He said that the command has strengthened its special intervention patrol operations, along major highways, traffic corridors, black spots and other identified areas prone to road traffic crashes and congestion as well as enforcement and prompt response to emergencies.

The command under his leadership has also put in place strategic measures aimed at addressing anticipated increase in vehicular movement, traffic congestion, road user indiscipline and other challenges associated with the Ember Months period.

Also, he said the command has strengthened collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the Cross River State government, transport unions amd security agencies to ensure coordinated traffic management and intelligence sharing as well as emergency response and effective intervention whenever the need arises.

Etuk further said the command has held strategic engagements with emergency response organisations, traditional institutions, local government authorities and other critical road safety partners.

Meanwhile, the command, he added, is embarking on extensive public enlightenment and sensitisation campaign through radio, television, social media, motor parks, town-hall engagements, road shows and other platforms.

This, he said, is aimed at educating motorists, commercial drivers, passengers and other road users on safe driving practices and the need to exercise patience, discipline and caution throughout the ember months.

He added that the command has equally deployed personnel to strategic intersections, major entry and exit points, busy corridors, motor parks and areas expected to witness increased vehicular activities, just as he charged personnel to remain professional, disciplined, civil and responsive in the discharge of their duties.

The sector commander, further advised the motoring public to plan their journeys, avoid night travels where possible, and ensure adequate rest before embarking on long-distance journeys.
