The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has extended warm felicitations to the Nigerian Muslim Ummah as Muslims across the country commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Shaibu described the Maulud celebration as an important occasion for reflection, spiritual renewal and a reaffirmation of the values of peace, unity, compassion and devotion embodied in the teachings of Islam.
In a goodwill message, the NIS boss urged Muslim faithful to use the occasion to pray for peace, security and sustainable development in Nigeria, stressing that the progress of the nation requires collective commitment and goodwill from all citizens.

He also called on the Muslim community to intensify prayers for an end to insecurity and other challenges confronting the country, noting that a peaceful environment is essential for the development of sports, youth empowerment and the wider economy.
According to him, the teachings and virtues associated with Prophet Muhammad (SAW) offer valuable lessons on tolerance, peaceful coexistence, compassion and service to humanity.
Maulud is observed annually by Muslims in Nigeria and other parts of the world to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The occasion is traditionally marked by prayers, religious teachings, charity and reflections on the life and exemplary character of the Prophet.
Shaibu reaffirmed the NIS commitment to using sports as a platform for promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence, irrespective of religious, ethnic or cultural differences.
He assured that the institute would continue to support initiatives that harness the power of sports to unite Nigerians, develop young talents and contribute to national development.
