The federal government and the Borno State government have intensified efforts to secure the safe rescue of 44 schoolchildren abducted from Mussa community in Askira/UbalLocal government council of the state.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, disclosed this on Friday, when he met with parents of the abducted pupils at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The meeting was held at the request of the parents, who have repeatedly appealed to the authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of their children.
Zulum expressed sympathy with the affected families and assured them that President Bola Tinubu was personally committed to ensuring the safe return of the children.
The governor said the president has directed security agencies to work towards rescuing the pupils, adding that the military and the Borno State government were also doing everything within their powers to secure their release.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I once again extend my sympathies over what happened at Mussa Central Primary School on the 15th of May 2026, that led to the abduction of about 44 primary school pupils,” Zulum said.
He added: “On behalf of President Bola Tinubu, I want to sympathise with you. I want to assure you that Mr. President has since directed security agencies to ensure the rescue of our children, and I believe they are working to ensure their rescue.”
Zulum assured the parents that the authorities would continue to pursue all necessary measures to bring the children back safely to their families.
The abduction of the pupils from Mussa Central Primary School on May 15, has continued to generate concern among residents and stakeholders, with affected families calling for urgent government intervention.
