The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and direct entry against making mistakes, while creating their profiles, stressing that errors in personal information could create complications during the admission process.
JAMB issued the warning in a new advisory video released under its “JAMB Explained” series and shared on its official X handle on Wednesday.
The advisory, targeted at fresh candidates, highlighted errors in names and dates of birth among the mistakes that could cause difficulties during registration and subsequent admission processes.
The board urged candidates to carefully verify their personal information before creating their JAMB profiles.
“Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or direct entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct,” the board said.
JAMB explained that candidates’ personal information is obtained directly from their records with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and is not independently created or edited by the examination body.
“That means if there’s any error with your name or date of birth, JAMB cannot change it after registration,” the board stated.

The examination body also cautioned candidates against assuming that obtaining an affidavit would automatically resolve errors in their JAMB records.
According to the board, candidates should ensure that their identity information is accurate before proceeding with profile creation, as the details form the foundation of their records throughout the admission process.
JAMB therefore advised prospective UTME and direct entry candidates to carefully check the information linked to their National Identification Number (NIN) before beginning the registration process.
The board said taking the necessary steps to correct any inaccurate information before profile creation could help candidates avoid complications later in the admission process.
