Katsina United defender Chinedu Ozor has died after collapsing on the pitch during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes in Katsina State on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old defender reportedly collapsed in the early stages of the match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, with reports putting the incident at between the 10th and 13th minute.
Ozor was said to have suddenly fallen on the pitch and immediately received attention from medical personnel attached to Katsina United.
Efforts to revive him reportedly continued before he was rushed to a hospital for further treatment. However, he was said to have been pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
The tragic incident has thrown Katsina United into mourning, coming only weeks after Ozor joined the club as a new signing ahead of the new season.

Ozor was an experienced figure in Nigerian football, having previously represented clubs including Kano Pillars, Heartland United and Lobi Stars.
His sudden death has also renewed concerns about the availability and effectiveness of emergency medical services at football venues, particularly the need for rapid intervention when players suffer life-threatening medical emergencies during matches.
The exact cause of Ozor’s collapse and subsequent death has not been officially established.
As of the time of filing this report, Katsina United had yet to issue a detailed official statement on the circumstances surrounding the defender’s death.
