Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has signed three Executive Orders targeting drug abuse, illegal mining and political thuggery in a sweeping move to strengthen security, protect communities and preserve peace ahead of future elections.

Governor Agbu Kefas said the Executive Orders are designed to address pressing security, social and environmental challenges confronting Taraba State while strengthening the enforcement of existing laws.
One of the new orders reinforces the prohibition of drug abuse, with the government citing the growing link between substance abuse, violent crime, insecurity, family breakdown and declining productivity.
The administration said the order empowers relevant authorities to prevent, monitor and prosecute drug-related offences while expanding public awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programmes and youth empowerment initiatives.

Kefas also signed an Executive Order banning political thuggery, describing it as a proactive step to safeguard the peace currently enjoyed in the state ahead of the next election cycle.
The order prohibits the recruitment, sponsorship, funding, harbouring or use of political thugs and aims to curb voter intimidation, election violence and destruction of property.
The third Executive Order focuses on illegal mining and environmental degradation, following concerns over the activities of illegal miners, loggers and other unauthorised operators.
According to the government, these activities have destroyed farmlands, polluted water sources and threatened the livelihoods of host communities.
The administration said the order strengthens the protection of natural resources, promotes environmental sustainability and safeguards communities hosting legitimate resource development projects.
Governor Kefas appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, political stakeholders and security agencies to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the Executive Orders.
