The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted two consignments of cocaine allegedly concealed in a wooden mortar and a specially modified backpack destined for China and Italy.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, and shared on X on Sunday.
According to Babafemi, NDLEA operatives discovered cocaine concealed inside a traditional wooden mortar, which was being shipped to China.
In a separate interception, another cocaine consignment heading to Italy was found hidden inside the false bottom of a backpack concealed among lace materials.
Babafemi warned Nigerians to be cautious when accepting parcels or packages from other people, noting that being unaware of the contents may not necessarily shield a person from liability.

He said:, “Mortar is a traditional local wooden tool commonly used for pounding yams or grains but was used to conceal cocaine consignment heading to China in one of the latest seizures by NDLEA officers who also discovered another shipment of cocaine going to Italy in the false bottom of a backpack hidden in lace materials.
“Beware of every parcel you’re given to deliver. Remember the key word for liability is possession!”
The agency’s latest seizures underscore the various methods allegedly used by drug traffickers to conceal illicit substances and move them across borders.
