Embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is now set to walk free earlier than expected after U.S. prison authorities revised his projected release date for the latest time, even as reports claim he has been placed in solitary confinement following an alleged incident behind bars.

Key Highlights

  • Diddy’s projected prison release date moved forward by one month.
  • New release date is January 24, 2028.
  • Rap mogul is serving a 50-month sentence.
  • Reports claim he was placed in solitary confinement after a prison altercation.
  • Legal team continues efforts to overturn his conviction.

According to records from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons, Combs’ expected release date has been brought forward from February 23, 2028, to January 24, 2028.

The 56-year-old Bad Boy Records founder has been behind bars since his arrest in September 2024. He was later sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

His release timeline has changed several times since his sentencing. Prison officials routinely review projected release dates based on factors including good behaviour, time already served and participation in rehabilitation programmes.

When Combs was first sentenced, he was expected to regain his freedom in May 2028. That date was later revised to June 2028, then February 2028, before the latest adjustment moved it to January 2028.

The revised date comes amid reports that the Grammy-winning rapper was transferred to solitary confinement following an alleged altercation inside prison. However, U.S. prison authorities have not confirmed any connection between the reported incident and the updated release date.

Before sentencing, Combs told the court he had remained sober for the first time in more than 20 years while in custody, attended therapy sessions and launched a mentorship programme for fellow inmates.

Although a jury cleared him of the more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, it convicted him on the prostitution-related offences for which he is currently serving his sentence.

Despite the conviction, Combs’ legal team is continuing its appeal, while the music executive also faces dozens of civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, claims he has consistently denied.
