Real Madrid have taken a significant step towards signing highly-rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with the Spanish giants reaching personal terms with the Ivory Coast international after Paris Saint-Germain withdrew from the race for his signature.
The 19-year-old, regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, is now on the verge of a blockbuster move to the Santiago Bernabéu, with Madrid expected to pay a fee exceeding £100 million for the youngster.
Diomande had attracted widespread interest across Europe following an outstanding 2025–26 campaign in the Bundesliga.
Liverpool were among the first clubs to make a move, reportedly seeing an initial £69 million offer rejected earlier in the summer before shifting their focus to other transfer targets.
Paris Saint-Germain later emerged as favourites for the winger and are understood to have submitted a final bid worth £102.5 million.
However, the French champions opted against raising their offer after Leipzig rejected the proposal.
In a statement explaining their decision, PSG insisted they would not compromise their financial principles despite Diomande’s immense potential.

“The asking transfer fee and salary demands were completely disproportionate and distortive,” the club stated. “PSG will not break its principles of rational financial management and squad balance, nor engage in inflationary negotiations.”
Real Madrid quickly capitalised on the opportunity, reaching an agreement on personal terms with the player.
Reports indicate the proposed contract mirrors the incentive-based structure agreed with England midfielder Jude Bellingham, allowing the player’s earnings to increase based on performances and achievements.
Sources close to the Spanish club revealed that chief executive José Ángel Sánchez and renowned chief scout Juni Calafat have monitored Diomande’s development for nearly five years, with Madrid’s interest predating his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although his displays on football’s biggest stage further elevated his reputation, club insiders insist Madrid’s pursuit was based on years of scouting rather than a reaction to his World Cup exploits.
Leipzig have made efforts to retain the exciting winger, who only joined the Bundesliga side from Spanish outfit Leganés last summer on a five-year contract.
However, the scale of interest from Europe’s elite clubs and the prospect of a club-record transfer fee have made negotiations increasingly difficult.
Diomande enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Germany, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists to win the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award.
His rise has been remarkable. After leaving Ivory Coast to continue his development at an academy in the United States, he earned a move to Leganés before securing a transfer to Leipzig, where his rapid development has now placed him among the world’s most sought-after young footballers.
If the transfer is completed, Diomande will become one of the most expensive African footballers in history and further strengthen Real Madrid’s long-term strategy of assembling some of world football’s finest young talents.
