The House of Representatives Committee investigating the activities of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the self-styled Director-General of the organisation, Adeyemi Adeniyi, before it on Wednesday over allegations of fraud, forgery and impersonation.

Key Highlights

  • The House of Representatives committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the organisation’s self-styled Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, before it on Wednesday.
  • Adeniyi is expected to answer questions over allegations of fraud, forgery and impersonation.
  • The committee is investigating how the PFIPC allegedly obtained office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and received a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite lawmakers’ claim that the organisation was not established by law.
  • Police disclosed that petitions were filed against Adeniyi over allegations that he falsely claimed to be the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC.
  • The police said an eight-count charge had been filed against Adeniyi at the Federal High Court following investigations.

The directive was issued on Monday during the committee’s resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Representing the inspector general of police Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi appeared before the committee and was directed to ensure Adeyemi’s appearance by 12 noon on Wednesday to answer questions relating to the ongoing investigation.

The committee is probing how the PFIPC, which lawmakers say was never established by law, allegedly secured office space at the Phase III wing of the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and received a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

The lawmakers’ decision followed the confirmation by the police that it had investigated petitions from the office of the chief of staff to the president accusing Adeyemi of falsely presenting himself as the director-general of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.

Committee Chairman, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi said Adeyemi’s appearance had become unavoidable because of the seriousness of the allegations and the government institutions allegedly affected.

“This committee clearly needs the suspected DG to appear before this committee. People’s names are involved. People’s integrity are involved. Institutional names are involved. Institutional integrity is involved.

“It is not an option now. We will need him here to confirm some documents to us in such a way that will not undermine our investigation to enable us to submit our report on time,” Rep..Gagdi said.

The committee subsequently directed its clerk to formally communicate its resolution to the inspector-general of police.

Earlier, ACP Abdullahi informed lawmakers that the police had already concluded part of their investigation and filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi before the Federal High Court.

He disclosed that the suspect has been arrested and arraigned but declined to provide further details, warning that doing so could prejudice the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings.

“We don’t want to say things that are under investigation. It is definitely going to prejudice the ongoing investigation and make people have opinions that may prejudge the outcome of an investigation or judicial decision,” Abdullahi said.

The police, however, confirmed that on October 17, 2025, the office of the chief of staff to the president petitioned security agencies over allegations against Adeyemi, leading to investigations that culminated in criminal charges bordering on conspiracy and fraud.

According to the police, investigators also received another petition alleging that Adeyemi falsely claimed to be the director-general of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
