The University of Calabar has sanctioned nine teaching and non- teaching staff with various disciplinary actions including dismissal, and delay in promotions.
The affected staff were found to be involved in alleged cases of examination misconduct, absence and abandonment of duty, falsification and alteration of examination results.
Eight of the affected staff have been dismissed from the services of the university, while one is to have his promotion delayed for two promotional years.
According to a memo signed by the university’s Registrar, Mrs. Icha Chukwuka, the decision was taken at the 174th meeting of the university’s governing council, upon deliberating on the report of disciplinary cases presented to it.
The registrar, who is also the secretary of governing council, stated in the memo that Prof. Emilia Oyira of the department of nursing science has been dismissed from the services of the institution.
Others dismissed from service include, Mr. Ukachukwu Darlington of the department of chemical pathology, Mrs. Akinrinade Ogunluyi of the department of microbiology, Arum Nchekwube of the department of internal medicine, and Mrs. Okoi Eni of the department of clinical medicine.

Also facing dismissal are Mr. Joseph Okon of the works department over allegations of vandalizing and carting away armoured cables and Mr. Eworo Ibor of the department of pure and applied chemistry.
Similarly, Mr. Emmanuel Adariku of the Unical Alumni Relations Office was dismissed for a case of unauthorized withdrawal of funds from ‘The Friends of Malabor/Alumni Trust Funds’ account, while Mathias Agba of the department of nursing science is to face delayed promotion for two promotional years, including forfeiture of 50 percent of his withheld salary for his culpability in the case of negligence of duty in respect of alleged examination misconduct.
The management of the university, according to a statement from the information unit of the university, continues to reiterate its zero tolerance for all forms of unethical practices by staff.
