Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and Colombian music superstar Shakira have thrilled fans after sharing a warm backstage moment ahead of their performance at the historic 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, posted a video on his X account on Friday, showing the pair embracing and exchanging smiles during rehearsals at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, where Sunday’s World Cup final will be played.
Sharing the clip, the Grammy-winning artiste wrote: “Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!”
The video and accompanying photos captured the two global stars laughing together and sharing a hug outside the production area as final preparations continued for the landmark performance.
FIFA had earlier confirmed that Burna Boy and Shakira would headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show, performing “Dai Dai,” the official anthem of the 2026 tournament.
The halftime entertainment is expected to mark a new era for the World Cup, with organisers adopting a Super Bowl-style format. Reports indicate the traditional 15-minute halftime break could be extended to approximately 30 minutes to accommodate the show, including an 11-minute live performance alongside the usual match analysis.
The star-studded event will also feature performances by BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus with Coldplay, as well as appearances by beloved characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
