Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the release of ₦1.3 billion for the payment of bursary to eligible students across the state, alongside a significant increase in the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary.
The approval, announced on Tuesday, is aimed at easing the financial burden on students, expanding access to higher education, and strengthening human capital development in the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the state government described the decision as a clear demonstration of Governor Eno’s commitment to investing in education and empowering young people.
According to the statement, the bursary allocation will benefit qualified students across Akwa Ibom State, while the increase in the award represents a 150 percent rise from the previous amount.
“This landmark approval underscores the governor’s commitment to easing the financial burden on students, expanding access to quality education, and investing in the future of Akwa Ibom’s young people,” the statement read.

The state government noted that the initiative is intended to support eligible students in meeting their educational needs while encouraging greater participation in tertiary education.
It also described the intervention as a strategic investment in the state’s human capital, reaffirming that education remains a central pillar of the Eno administration’s development agenda.
The statement added that the state government will continue to implement policies and programmes that create opportunities for young people, promote academic excellence, and drive sustainable development across Akwa Ibom State.
