Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi has expressed relief and gratitude following the rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted in Oyo State, describing the development as being “worthy of thanksgiving.”
In a statement shared via his verified X account on Saturday, July 11, Obi said he was greatly relieved to learn that the victims had regained their freedom.
He commended the security personnel and everyone involved in the operation, saying their dedication made the successful rescue possible.
“This is worthy of thanksgiving. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he wrote.
While celebrating the victims’ safe return, Obi stressed that no child should have to experience the trauma of abduction.

He noted that the repeated kidnapping of schoolchildren across the country highlights the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and make the protection of lives and property the government’s highest priority.
According to him, every Nigerian child deserves to learn in a safe and secure environment without fear of violence or kidnapping.
Obi concluded by rejoicing with the rescued children, their families, their schools, and Nigerians, describing the successful rescue as a heartening development.
