The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Abuja on Thursday, is designed to ease the financial burden on sports reporters by offering reduced domestic and international airfares, visa advisory services, accommodation assistance and other travel-related benefits.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin, described the partnership as a major milestone in the association’s commitment to improving the welfare and professional capacity of its members.
Benjamin said the SWAN leadership thoroughly reviewed the agreement before approving it, expressing confidence that it would deliver tangible benefits to sports journalists across Nigeria. He also commended veteran sports journalist Abdulgafar Oladimeji for facilitating the collaboration.
The SWAN President lamented the high cost of air travel in Nigeria, noting that many sports journalists are often compelled to undertake road trips lasting up to 14 hours to cover sporting events because they cannot afford flight tickets.
According to him, the new arrangement will enable more members to attend major international competitions, including the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Leader of the Byblos Travels delegation, Abubakar Nasrudeen, expressed the company’s delight at partnering with SWAN to make travel more affordable and convenient for sports journalists.

He added that the company would continue exploring additional opportunities within the travel industry to support members of the association.
The partnership comes as preparations intensify for several major international sporting events and is expected to enhance the mobility of Nigerian sports journalists, increase their participation in global competitions and strengthen the quality of sports reporting in the country.
