North will not vote Obi has become the latest political talking point after former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, declared that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi would not receive support from Northern voters in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a political interview, Sheriff dismissed Obi’s presidential ambition, insisting that the former Anambra State governor would struggle to secure votes across Northern Nigeria.
“I am not worried about Peter Obi at all because I know that Northerners will never vote for Peter Obi,” Sheriff said.
When reminded that Obi recorded significant votes in states such as Nasarawa and Plateau during the 2023 presidential election, Sheriff argued that the political situation has changed ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to him, the circumstances that contributed to Obi’s performance in 2023 no longer exist.
“The situation is different now. You know why? Peter Obi, when he was a governor, chased all the Northerners out of Anambra State,” he alleged.
Sheriff also claimed that some Northern political stakeholders, including supporters of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were opposed to any political alliance involving Obi.
According to him, some of Kwankwaso’s supporters have indicated they would support the former governor if he contests the presidency independently but would not back a coalition that includes Obi.

“This is what Kano people are telling Kwankwaso now, that we always supported you and we will support you if you run for president, but we will not support you to go with Peter Obi,” Sheriff said.
The comments come as political parties and opposition figures continue consultations and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
