The acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for its ongoing infrastructure development projects, describing them as a landmark investment that will transform the future of Nigerian football.
Adamu gave the commendation on Monday, after inspecting the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches under construction at the Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
He expressed satisfaction with the scale and quality of the facilities, saying they would provide a solid foundation for talent development and strengthen Nigeria’s football ecosystem for generations.
“Being a Nigerian and seeing what is being built here, I can only be proud. The future looks extremely bright. This is the type of facility that will help produce the next Jay-Jay Okochas and many more great players,” Adamu said.
He noted that a country of Nigeria’s size requires world-class infrastructure capable of accommodating all its national teams and age-grade sides while serving as a centre for identifying and nurturing young talents.
Adamu congratulated the leadership of the NFF, led by Ibrahim Gusau, for embarking on what he described as a laudable legacy project.
He added that his visit to Nigeria is part of preparations for the CAF Congress and CAF Awards, which the continental football body plans to host in the country.
“I want to thank the NFF and the Government of Nigeria because I am here for a specific mission on a working visit, planning for the CAF Congress and the CAF Awards that the Confederation intends to organise here in Nigeria.
“Even though Nigeria is home for me, I have been received very well, and I thank the NFF president and the leadership for their hospitality,” he said.
Speaking during the inspection, Gusau reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to completing the project within the stipulated timeline.
According to him, the two-year construction project has entered its 15th month since work commenced in March 2025, leaving about nine months to completion.
The NFF president disclosed that one of the artificial pitches is already about 80 per cent completed, while work on other components of the project is progressing simultaneously.
“I am satisfied with the pace and quality of work on the site. The project’s proximity to the NFF headquarters allows the Federation to carry out regular inspections.
“As far as we are concerned, work is progressing well, and we will continue to support the contractors to ensure the project is completed within the agreed period,” Gusau said.

Meanwhile, the NFF has announced that media accreditation for the first-leg final qualifying match for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup between Nigeria’s Flamingos and Benin Republic is now open.
The match will be played at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne-Remo, on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
The federation said accreditation requests from media organisations will be accepted between June 29 and July 1, while accreditation cards will be issued at the venue on July 3.
It added that each media organisation would be allocated only one slot each for a reporter and a photojournalist due to limited space in the media gallery.
