The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Cypher Crescent Limited, has launched the Catch the Researchers Young Programme, an initiative aimed at equipping 500 Nigerian undergraduates with digital research and emerging technology skills.

The three-month programme, unveiled during a virtual launch on Monday, is designed to prepare students to apply digital tools to research, innovation, and problem-solving within the energy industry and other sectors of the economy.

Key Highlights:

  • NCDMB launched a digital research programme for 500 undergraduates.
  • The initiative is in partnership with Cypher Crescent Limited.
  • The training will run for three months.
  • Students will learn research, data analytics, and cloud computing.
  • The programme aims to boost digital skills and innovation.

Representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Felix Ogbe, the board’s Director of Corporate Services, Abdulmalik Halilu, said the initiative aligns with NCDMB’s 10-year strategic roadmap, particularly its commitment to strengthening technical capacity and developing human capital.

He noted that building digital research capabilities among young Nigerians is essential to creating a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation, boosting industrial development, and supporting the country’s economic growth.

Halilu encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, describing the programme as a strategic investment in the nation’s future.

In his keynote address, the acting Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at NCDMB, Mr. Silas Ajemijaye, described the programme as a collaborative effort involving the Board, Cypher Crescent Limited, and other industry stakeholders to bridge the gap between academic research and practical technological application in Nigerian universities.

He urged participants to embrace creativity, collaboration, and innovation while developing practical solutions to challenges across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the petroleum industry.

Also speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cypher Crescent Limited, ThankGod Igbe, commended NCDMB for prioritising youth empowerment through capacity-building initiatives.

According to him, the programme will expose participants to practical industry knowledge while equipping them with digital competencies that will enhance their careers in research, technology, and the energy sector.

The training curriculum covers six major areas: research methodology, digital transformation, business process digitisation, cloud computing, data analytics, and digital research tools.

The virtual launch attracted senior officials of NCDMB, representatives of Cypher Crescent Limited, facilitators, and the 500 undergraduates selected for the programme.

Organisers said the Catch the Researchers Young programme forms part of NCDMB’s broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s research ecosystem by nurturing indigenous talent and developing a new generation of digitally skilled professionals capable of driving innovation and sustainable growth within the country’s energy industry.
