The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has approved an increase in the admission quota for the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programme at Novena University, Ogume, Delta State, boosting the institution’s annual intake to 120 students.
The approval followed a successful verification and monitoring exercise by the council, which confirmed that the university met the required standards for expanding its pharmacy training capacity.
In an approval letter signed by the Registrar of the Council, Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed, the PCN stated that the decision was based on its assessment of the faculty of pharmacy’s facilities, manpower and academic resources.
The council noted that Novena University has made significant investments in modern laboratories, lecture facilities and other infrastructure required for the effective training of future pharmacists.

It also acknowledged the availability of qualified academic staff to sustain the expanded programme.
The increase in admission capacity is expected to provide more opportunities for qualified candidates seeking to pursue pharmacy education while supporting national efforts to produce the skilled healthcare workforce needed to strengthen Nigeria’s health sector.
Responding to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Novena University, Prof. Godwin Nduka, thanked the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria for the confidence reposed in the institution.
He described the approval as a testament to the university’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high academic standards and investing in quality teaching, research and professional training.
Prof. Nduka reiterated that the university would continue to enhance its facilities and academic programmes to produce competent, globally competitive graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Novena University, the first private university in Delta State, offers fully accredited programmes across several disciplines, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, optometry, medical laboratory science, public health, law, computer science, software engineering, accounting, business administration, mass communication, political science, intelligence and security studies.
