The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a suspected cultists hideout in the Awada area of Idemili North Local Government Area, recovering AK-47 magazines, live ammunition and other police-related items during a raid.
The operation, carried out by operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police’s Violent Crime Response Unit, took place on June 20 at Nwaziki Street, Awada, a location authorities described as a notorious black spot for cult-related activities.
In a statement issued on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said police officers recovered two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other police-related items during the intelligence-led operation.
According to him, no suspects were arrested as those occupying the hideout fled upon sighting the police.
“The police team stormed the notorious black spot known for cult-related activities at Nwaziki Street, Awada,” Ikenga said.

“Although no suspect was arrested at the scene, detedtives have commenced investigations to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits, and unravel any criminal network linked to the recovered items.”
The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and determine the source and intended use of the recovered weapons and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the police officers who carried out the operation for what he described as proactive, intelligence-led policing and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal groups and their hideouts across the state.
