Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday inaugurated the Osubi branch of Zenith Bank Plc in Okpe Local Government Area, describing the development as a major boost for financial inclusion and a strong endorsement of the state’s growing investment potential. The governor said the opening of the bank’s 19th branch in Delta State reflects increasing investor confidence in the state’s economy and business-friendly environment.

“This is more than just a banking facility coming on stream. It is a strong vote of confidence in the future of Delta State and in the opportunities that lie before us,” he said.

The governor commended the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr. Adaora Umeoji, and the bank’s management team for fulfilling their commitment to establish a branch in Osubi.

“When this administration came on board, the bank promised to build a branch to service this community and today it is evident. I am particularly impressed by the leadership of the bank for keeping to their promise,” he stated.

Governor Oborevwori described the branch as a historic milestone for the people of Okpe Local Government Area, noting that it is currently the only banking institution serving the area.

“It is worthy of note that this branch is the only bank in the whole of Okpe Local Government Area as it is today, and the significance of this bank to our people cannot be overemphasized because of the impact it will have on the economy of this local government.

“They have been agitating and crying for years, and I told them that by the grace of God we would have a bank here. Today, that promise has been fulfilled, and I know that more banks are coming by the grace of God,” he added.

The governor attributed the increasing flow of investments into Delta State to sustained peace and security across the state.

“Today, Delta State is enjoying an atmosphere of peace and security that allows our businesses to thrive and communities to prosper. This did not happen by chance. It is the result of deliberate efforts to strengthen security, promote stability and create an environment where people can live, work and invest with confidence,” he said.

According to him, the new Zenith Bank branch will provide accessible banking services to residents of Osubi and neighbouring communities, while supporting entrepreneurs, strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises, enhancing financial inclusion, and stimulating economic development.

“When a leading financial institution such as Zenith Bank expands its presence in Delta State, it sends a powerful message that Delta is open for business and ready for greater investment.

“As government, we remain committed to sustaining peace, improving infrastructure and providing the right environment for businesses to succeed. We will continue to work with private sector partners whose investments help drive growth, employment and improve the lives of our people,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr. Adaora Umeoji, thanked Governor Oborevwori for supporting private-sector investments and creating an enabling environment for businesses in Delta State.

She disclosed that the governor donated the land on which the new branch was built at no cost to the bank.

“Your presence here today speaks volumes about your commitment to supporting private-sector investments and the continued development of Delta State. You have further demonstrated this commitment through your generous donation of the land on which this branch now proudly stands.

“The Governor actually donated this land free of charge. He demonstrated the large heart that Deltans are known for and his dedication to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” she said.

Umeoji also praised the administration’s developmental strides, noting that the impact of the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda is evident across communities in the state.

“Since you assumed office, the pace of infrastructure development and socio-economic transformation across Delta State has been truly remarkable. The impact of your M.O.R.E Agenda is visible in communities across the state, and today you are bringing more world-class banking services to the good people of Osubi, your own community,” she added.

The Zenith Bank chief noted that the Osubi branch represents the bank’s 19th branch in Delta State since it opened its first branch in Warri in 1994.
