The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police, Anietie Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Friday, by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid.
Iniedu succeeds Placid and assumes responsibility for managing the public image and communication strategy of the police.
A statement issued by the Force Headquarters, described the new police spokesman as a seasoned officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability and administration.
A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.
The statement noted that he has attended several professional courses in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication and intelligence analysis.
Before his appointment, Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and championed initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and public trust in the police.
His tenure at the unit was said to have witnessed improvements in citizens’ engagement with the police and enhanced responsiveness to complaints and concerns raised by members of the public.
The new FPRO also previously served as public relations officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, and held several operational and administrative positions across the country.
Among his previous appointments were operations officer at the Maisandari Division in Yobe State Command, area crime officer at the Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, and staff officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters.

He also served as second-in-command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa, Abuja, as well as officer-in-charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he supervised the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information nationwide.
Expressing confidence in the new appointment, the police chief, said Iniedu’s vast experience and professional background would further strengthen the Force Public Relations Department and enhance the police’s strategic communication efforts.
According to the statement, the appointment is expected to deepen public engagement and support ongoing policing reforms and operational successes across the country.
