The third edition of the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Premier Volleyball League continued to gather momentum on Tuesday as Day Two action delivered another round of thrilling encounters at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The standout fixture in the women’s category saw Anambra Queens survive a marathon battle against Excelsior Volleyball Club, eventually edging a dramatic five-set thriller 3-2 in one of the most gripping matches of the competition so far.
Excelsior struck first, taking the opening set 25-21, but Anambra Queens responded with a 25-20 second-set win. The momentum continued to swing as Excelsior claimed the third set 25-22, before Anambra Queens forced a decider with a hard-fought 25-23 fourth set.
The fifth set delivered maximum tension, with both sides trading points deep into the tie-break before Anambra Queens held their nerve to secure a dramatic 16-14 victory, completing a 3-2 comeback (21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 16-14).
Elsewhere in the women’s category, Olalomi Royal Angels also recorded a hard-fought five-set victory over Benue Queens, winning 3-2 after another intense contest (15-25, 26-28, 25-19, 25-12, 15-11), further underlining the competitiveness of the tournament.
In another women’s fixture, the Nigeria Customs Service Volleyball Team delivered a commanding performance, defeating VIP & Partners in straight sets.
Customs controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25-20, 25-11, 25-20 to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory and maintain their strong form in the competition.
The CNS Spikers were equally dominant, producing a one-sided performance against the Nigeria Fire Service, cruising to a 3-0 win with set scores of 25-8, 25-15, 25-14.
The most dramatic men’s encounter came between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Volleyball Club and Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club, a match defined by momentum swings and high tension.
NSCDC started strongly, taking the first two sets 25-16, 25-23, but Ajase Ipo responded with a spirited comeback, winning the third and fourth sets 25-21, 25-21 to force a deciding set.
In a tense fifth set, both teams exchanged match points before Ajase Ipo missed a crucial service opportunity. NSCDC capitalised to close out a narrow 19-17 win, sealing a hard-fought 3-2 victory and their first win of the tournament.
The COAS Spikers continued their strong campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Offa Volleyball Club, controlling proceedings with scores of 25-15, 25-11, 25-20.
The Defence Spikers also secured an important win, defeating Life Camp Volleyball Club 3-1 (25-18, 25-27, 25-17, 30-28) in one of the most competitive matches of the day, showing resilience in a tightly contested fourth set.
In another men’s fixture, the CNS Spikers produced one of the strongest performances of the day, defeating the Nigeria Correctional Service Volleyball Team in straight sets.

CNS edged a tight opening set 30-28, before taking the second 26-24 and closing out the match with a convincing 25-18 third set to complete a 3-0 victory.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service Men’s Team also impressed with a straight-sets win over the Nigeria Police Volleyball Team, sealing a 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 triumph.
NSCDC head coach Samuel Ajayi expressed relief after his team bounced back from an opening defeat.
“This is our first victory in the ongoing league and I am relieved. After losing our opening match, it was important for us to earn points today,” he said.
He added that limited preparation affected early performance but insisted the team would improve as the competition progresses.
Anambra Queens coach John Iwerima praised his players for their resilience despite difficult circumstances.
“Our players only arrived around 3 a.m. and had just about an hour of sleep before the match, but they achieved what many thought was impossible,” he said.
Defence Spikers coach Kingsley Akila also highlighted his team’s growing confidence after their first win.
“We are new to the league and determined to prove ourselves. This victory will give the players confidence going into our next matches,” he stated.
As the 2026 CGC Premier Volleyball League progresses in Abuja, the competition continues to showcase rising standards, with closely fought five-set battles, straight-set dominance, and emotional comebacks reflecting the growing depth of Nigerian volleyball.
