Several persons were feared dead and many others injured after a tipper truck on Tuesday morning reportedly lost control and ploughed into road users along the busy College Junction–Agbor Central Hospital corridor in Agbor, the headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The tragic incident occurred as the truck was said to be descending from the popular College Junction axis towards Agbor Central Hospital and the town centre when it allegedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control.
Eyewitnesses said that the truck rammed into commercial motorcyclists, pedestrians and other road users along the route, leaving a trail of death and injuries.
Although the exact casualty figure remained unclear at the time of filing this report, sources at the scene said no fewer than five persons were feared killed, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Preliminary accounts from residents and bystanders suggested the truck may have experienced brake failure while descending the road.

“The truck was coming down from the College Junction area towards the Central Hospital and the main town. People around the scene believed the brakes failed because the vehicle was moving uncontrollably before it hit people on the road,” the source said.
The accident triggered panic among residents and commuters on the busy roadway, with videos circulating on social media showing emergency efforts to assist victims and clear the scene.
The College Junction–Central Hospital road is one of the major routes linking several residential communities and commercial districts within Agbor, making it a heavily trafficked corridor throughout the day.
As of press time, authorities had yet to issue an official statement confirming the cause of the crash, the number of fatalities or the identities of the victims.
Investigations are expected to commence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
