2027: Ogboru returns to a hero's welcome, sets tone for governorship battle in Delta

Chief Great Ogboru has signaled his readiness to make another determined push for Government House, Asaba, declaring that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is well-positioned to end years of one-party dominance in Delta State.

Key Highlights:

  • Great Ogboru declared his 2027 governorship ambition under the African Democratic Congress.
  • Thousands welcomed him at Osubi Airport.
  • He said Deltans are ready for political change.
  • Ogboru criticized poor governance and infrastructure.
  • He promised development, jobs, and accountability.

The ADC governorship candidate made the declaration on Friday, upon his arrival at the Osubi Airport, where thousands of supporters turned out to welcome him in what many described as a major show of political strength ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Ogboru expressed confidence that the ADC has emerged as the credible alternative capable of taking power and delivering good governance to Deltans.

“The APC has been tested, and the results are clear: less than satisfactory. That is the verdict of the Nigerian people,” he said.

“I believe that with the ADC, there is hope, and we can correct the mistakes of the past. ADC has come, and ADC will deliver the dividends of democracy, good governance, decency, integrity, accountability, and responsibility.”

The veteran politician, popularly known as the “people’s general,” described the large turnout as evidence that Deltans are eager for political change and ready to rally behind a platform they believe can transform the state.

He argued that years of unmet expectations, poor infrastructure and governance deficits have created a strong desire among citizens for a new direction.

Pointing to roads in parts of Warri that have remained in poor condition for decades, Ogboru said the demand for change is growing across the state because many people feel they have not enjoyed the benefits of democratic governance.

The ADC standard bearer also moved to strengthen his credentials as a genuine opposition figure, dismissing claims that he was working for the ruling political establishment in the state.

Recalling his long history of political contests and legal battles against successive administrations, he insisted that his commitment has always been to the people rather than personal gain.

“From James Ibori to now, none of them has ever given me a penny. We did not come into this because we are looking for money,” he stated.

On the prospects of the 2027 election, Ogboru expressed optimism that improved voter awareness and the deployment of technology would help safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

“Every day is for the thief, and one day is for the owner,” he said, while urging supporters to remain steadfast in their pursuit of political change.

The governorship candidate further assured supporters that the ADC would focus its campaign on issues affecting ordinary citizens, particularly grassroots development, healthcare, food security and economic empowerment.

“When I look here, I see so many old faces. These are the people who have refused to give up like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They refused to accept what was not right,” he said.

“There is a difference between darkness and light. And I think the path of light will prevail.”

The massive crowd that thronged the Osubi Airport on Friday to welcome Ogboru has reinforced his reputation as one of Delta State’s most enduring grassroots political figures.
