President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the lingering dispute over the ward delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, a move that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, says has helped secure a peaceful resolution of the matter.

Key Highlights:

  • Bola Tinubu intervened in the Warri ward delineation dispute, helping to achieve a peaceful resolution.
  • Sheriff Oborevwori publicly thanked the President for his role in resolving the issue.
  • The dispute arose from an Independent National Electoral Commission ward delineation exercise in the Warri Federal Constituency.
  • The controversy had created tensions among the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo communities.
  • Oborevwori urged all stakeholders to embrace unity, peace, and cooperation for the development of Delta State.

Governor Oborevwori disclosed this on Thursday, in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, where he expressed gratitude to the President for what he described as a decisive intervention in the contentious issue.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to Mr President for his decisive intervention in resolving the Warri Federal Constituency ward delineation matter,” the governor stated.

The ward delineation exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had generated tensions among stakeholders in the Warri Federal Constituency, particularly among the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic nationalities, prompting widespread calls for dialogue and peaceful engagement.

Governor Oborevwori also commended leaders and stakeholders involved in the resolution process for accepting the terms of settlement and prioritizing peace over conflict.

According to him, their willingness to embrace dialogue and compromise demonstrated a commitment to justice, unity and the overall stability of Delta State.

“I equally commend all leaders and stakeholders who embraced the terms of settlement, demonstrating their commitment to peace, justice and unity. May God bless and reward your efforts,” he said.

The governor urged residents of the state to move beyond the disagreements that trailed the delineation exercise and focus on strengthening unity and cooperation among the various ethnic groups.

He stressed that lasting peace and development can only be achieved when stakeholders work together in the collective interest of the state.

“This is a time for all of us to come together as one people, strengthen our bonds of brotherhood, and work collectively for the peace, stability and progress of our state,” Oborevwori stated.

He added that a united Delta State would be better positioned to achieve greater development and guarantee harmonious coexistence for future generations.

The governor also thanked God for His guidance throughout the process, expressing optimism that the resolution would further consolidate peace and stability in the state.

The disclosure marks the first public acknowledgment by the governor of President Tinubu’s direct involvement in efforts to resolve the politically sensitive ward delineation dispute, which had threatened to heighten ethnic tensions in parts of Delta State.
