Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the General Manager, Corporate Communications Division, Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, described the NCDMB Science Quiz Competition as one of the Board’s flagship educational initiatives.

He noted that the Board has consistently supported the competition for nine consecutive years, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing young talents in science and technology.

According to him, the partnership between NCDMB and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has remained successful because both organizations share a common vision of promoting education and capacity development among Nigerian youths.

Dr. Ezeobi explained that one of NCDMB’s core mandates is to develop indigenous capacity for increased Nigerian participation in the oil and gas sector.

He stated that the science quiz competition serves as a platform to stimulate students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and innovation, which are critical to the future growth of Nigeria’s energy industry.

“It is in our interest to develop the young people who will work in the industry in the years ahead,” he said, emphasizing the importance of preparing the next generation of professionals.

He further highlighted several educational interventions undertaken by the Board, including the establishment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres in schools across the country. These centres are equipped with laptops, servers, interactive smartboards, and alternative power solutions, while teachers receive training to effectively deliver digital education.

Addressing the student participants, Dr. Ezeobi urged them to maximize the opportunities provided by the HP laptops by acquiring digital and technological skills that would prepare them for future careers.

He encouraged the students to focus on innovation, research, and problem-solving rather than limiting the devices to entertainment purposes.

“We hope to ignite your interest in innovation and inspire you to create solutions that will drive Nigeria’s oil and gas industry as well as other sectors of the economy,” he stated.

In her goodwill message, the General Manager of NTA Yenagoa, Mrs. Mary Ekanem, praised NCDMB for stepping in to sustain the competition after it faced financial challenges.

She noted that promoting education remains a key component of NTA’s mandate and described NCDMB as a valuable partner in advancing educational development.

According to her, the competition has continued to encourage students to study harder, improve their knowledge, and develop a passion for science and technology.

The Coordinator of the Science Quiz Competition, Mr. David Oyintare Enemiebor, expressed appreciation to NCDMB for expanding participation from 16 schools to 32 schools and enhancing the prestige of the competition through improved prize packages.

He noted that the Board’s intervention has significantly increased interest and participation among students and schools across Bayelsa State.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards, educational equipment, and laptops to the winning schools and outstanding students, marking another successful edition of the NCDMB Science Quiz Competition.
