Residents of several communities in Adamawa state are grappling with electricity outages following the collapse of a major power transmission tower during a windstorm that swept through parts of Yola in the early hours of today.
Key Highlights:
- A windstorm collapsed a power tower, causing outages.
- The incident affected communities around Yola.

- Some feeders remain without electricity.
- Engineers are repairing the damaged infrastructure.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:52 a.m., involved the collapse of the Jambutu 33kV feeder tower located at Jimeta Bridge. The damaged infrastructure disrupted power supply to several areas served by the affected network, raising concerns among residents and businesses dependent on electricity for daily activities.
In a statement released by the management of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), the company attributed the collapse to strong winds that accompanied the storm.
The utility provider said its technical crew responded immediately after the incident, isolating the affected section of the network to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.
According to YEDC, emergency intervention measures enabled the restoration of electricity supply to the Jambutu 33kV feeder by 7:38 a.m. However, customers connected to the 11kV Bajabure Feeder, 11kV FUTY Feeder, and 33kV Girei Feeder continue to experience outages as repair efforts intensify.
The company disclosed that engineers and technical personnel have been deployed to the site of the collapse and are working round the clock to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore normal power supply to affected communities.
