Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed all political appointees in the Adamawa State Government who have publicly aligned with political parties other than the ruling party in the state to resign from their positions within 48 hours or face dismissal.

Key Highlights:

  • Political appointees who support other political parties must resign within 48 hours.
  • Resignations must be submitted to the Secretary to the State Government.
  • The governor says appointees must remain loyal to the administration and its policies.
  • Supporting rival parties while serving in government is viewed as a conflict of loyalty.
  • Those who fail to comply may be dismissed and lose associated benefits.

The directive was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

According to the statement, affected appointees have been instructed to submit their resignation letters to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government within the stipulated period.

Governor Fintiri said the decision was necessary to safeguard loyalty, discipline, and effective governance within the administration. He stressed that political office holders are expected to remain committed to the government’s policies and political direction.

The governor warned that individuals who have openly declared allegiance to rival political parties cannot continue to serve in positions of trust within the administration, arguing that divided loyalties could undermine government programmes and political strategy.

He further stated that continued service by appointees who have shifted political allegiance could create risks, including policy obstruction, information leaks, and sabotage of government initiatives.

To ensure compliance, the governor directed the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service to identify and verify all affected appointees.

The statement also warned that any political appointee who fails to comply with the directive within the specified timeframe would face immediate termination of appointment, loss of salaries and benefits, and other administrative sanctions.

Fintiri maintained that the move is aimed at strengthening cohesion within government and ensuring that public officials remain fully committed to the administration’s vision and mandate.

The directive takes immediate effect.
