Confederation of Africa Football, (CAF) has explained the procedure adopted to select the twelve participating teams in this year’s Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nation in Morocco.
The continental football governing body poised to conduct the final draws on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Mohamed VI Complex in Rabat, in all fairness, explicitly analysed the process to select the team into groups.
CAF reports that the host country Morocco, Cameroon, and Nigeria will be placed in pots A1, B1, and C1 respectively The Trumpet gathered.
Other teams qualified to be drawn into one of the groups alongside the predetermined teams, include Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Senegal, South Africa, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria hold a record number of eleven AFCON titles and are the defending champion of the tournament which was hosted by West African neighbours Ghana in 2018.
Below is the draw procedure:
Qualified teams: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Morocco (hosts), Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia
Predetermined positions as per the regulations:
– A1: MOROCCO (Host Country),
– B1: CAMEROON (Second best-ranked team)
– C1: NIGERIA (Champions)
POT 1 (Remaining teams)
Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Burundi, Tunisia, Senegal, Botswana, Burkina Faso, South Africa

Three additional pots will be used: A, B, and C. Each pot will contain three (3) balls.
The first ball drawn from Pot 1 will go to group A. A ball will be drawn from Pot A to determine its position (A2, A3, A4) in the group.
The second ball drawn from Pot 1 will go to group B. A ball will be drawn from Pot B to determine its position (B2, B3, B4) in the group.
The third ball drawn from Pot 1 will go to group C. A ball will be drawn from Pot C to determine its position (C2, C3, C4) in the group.
This procedure will be repeated for all the remaining teams in Pot 1.
