Mixed reactions have trailed comments by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, after he urged President Bola Tinubu to direct security chiefs to eliminate terrorists and their sponsors within 90 days or resign their offices.
Key Highlights:
Adeboye made the call during a church service, expressing concern over the persistent insecurity across parts of Nigeria.
The cleric also recalled confronting former President Muhammadu Buhari after an earlier promise to defeat Boko Haram within a specified timeframe failed to materialise.
The remarks have sparked debate on X, with many Nigerians applauding the pastor for speaking out against the country’s worsening security situation, while others questioned the practicality of setting a deadline for security agencies battling insurgency and banditry.

Reacting to the statement, @AishaTalksNG wrote: “This is the kind of bold leadership we expect from respected national figures. Enough of the killings and kidnappings.”
Similarly, @EmekaWrites said Adeboye was articulating the concerns of millions of Nigerians frustrated by years of insecurity. “Pastor Adeboye is speaking the minds of millions of Nigerians who are tired of living in fear.”
Supporting the call for stronger action, @NaijaVoice247 stated that “terrorists and their sponsors should have no hiding place. Security agencies must intensify operations.”
@CitizenTunde also stressed the need for tangible results “Nigerians don’t need promises anymore; they need visible results and safer communities.”
However, not everyone agreed with the approach as @AbdulInsight questioned why the cleric’s challenge appeared directed at service chiefs rather than the president, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
“Why direct the ultimatum at service chiefs and not the President who is the Commander-in-Chief?” he said.
Also weighing in, @RealOluMedia argued that deadlines alone may not be enough to address a security crisis that has persisted for years.
“The question is whether deadlines alone can solve a security crisis that has lasted for years.”
In the same vein, @PoliticalObserverNG noted that dismantling terrorist networks requires sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated operations.
“A 90-day deadline sounds good, but dismantling terror networks requires long-term intelligence and coordination.”
Other users focused on the significance of Adeboye’s intervention.
@KemiReports observed:“Religious leaders rarely speak this strongly on security matters. This statement will definitely generate debate.”
While @GraceNation added: “Whether you agree with him or not, insecurity remains one of the country’s biggest challenges and must be tackled urgently.”
Echoing similar sentiments, @HopeForNigeria said that “the church leader’s call reflects the frustration many citizens feel over persistent attacks across the country.”
The debate comes amid continuing concerns over terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across several parts of Nigeria.
Recent incidents, including the abduction of pupils and staff members from schools near Ogbomoso in Oyo State, have renewed calls for stronger action against criminal groups and those suspected of sponsoring them.
Adeboye’s comments have once again brought national attention to the security challenges facing the country, with many Nigerians demanding urgent and measurable progress in the fight against terrorism and violent crime.
