The retreat, which featured presentations on the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, ICPC Structure, Mandate and Performance Scorecard, was held at the Commission’s boardroom.

The following persons were recently inaugurated as new Board Members of the ICPC after the Senate confirmed their appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari: Senator Anthony Agbo from Ebonyi State (South-East), Anne Otelafu Odey from Cross River State (South-South) and Alhaji Goni Ali Gujba from Yobe state (North-East).

Others are Dr Louis Solomon Mandama from Adamawa State (North-East) and retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju from Ekiti State (South-West).

ICPC Chairman, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye SAN, while speaking said the retreat was a tradition of the Commission, adding that previous Board Members also went through same process.

Prof Owasanoye explained that the aim of the retreat was to re-orient the minds of the Board Members on the tasks, challenges and expectations of their office, adding that the discussions were necessary and would be beneficial to them especially in carrying out their official responsibilities.

Delivering a paper titled “ICPC Mandate – The Role of the Chairman and Board Members,” the Chairman, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Ekpo Nta, highlighted some of the reasons Boards are set up in organisations to include setting out road maps and ensuring that the right personnel are hired to achieve the road maps.

According to him, others are providing resources to achieve goals, constantly monitoring implementation performance and timelines and making adjustments where necessary to ensure that cooperate standard are met as well as justifying stakeholders confidence amongst others.

Nta, who is the immediate past chairman of ICPC, stated that the essence of bringing the Chairman and Board members from different organisations and backgrounds was for them to bring their varied wealth of experiences to bear in achieving the mandate of the Commission.

He urged Board Members to strive to uphold the integrity and trust reposed on them by the President by serving the nation with the highest sense of responsibility and integrity.

“You are here is to sell and affirm your integrity,’’ Nta said.

He finally reminded the new Board Members that they were not in the Commission to represent only their geo-political zones or constituencies but the interest of the entire country. He urged them to work closely with the chairman and staff of ICPC to stamp out corruption in Nigeria.
