Residents of Creektown in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State have been left in shock following the arrest of a man suspected of being behind a series of mysterious killings and disappearances in the area.

The suspect, identified as Akaninyene, was apprehended during a security operation after intelligence reports linked him to several unresolved cases within the community.
A combined team of security personnel, including soldiers and tactical operatives, tracked the suspect to a remote forest hideout in Abanyama, Ukim Ita community.
Sources said the suspect allegedly attempted to escape after trying to retrieve a weapon from the hut but was swiftly overpowered and arrested by security operatives.
A search of the location reportedly uncovered eight shallow graves containing headless bodies. Investigators were said to have found plantain crops growing over the graves, allegedly planted to conceal the burial sites.
The gruesome discovery has heightened concerns among residents, many of whom had reported cases of missing relatives and neighbours in recent months.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing about 30 people and disclosed that a female accomplice assisted in luring victims before they were attacked.

The operation that led to his arrest was reportedly triggered by a recent incident on May 26, when residents became suspicious after hearing cries and signs of a struggle involving an alleged victim.
Community leaders and youths subsequently alerted security agencies, leading to a swift response.
However, the Cross River State Police Command has urged caution over the circulating reports.
Police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah said authorities are still verifying details surrounding the case and have yet to officially confirm the claims attributed to the suspect.
Investigations are ongoing as security agencies work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killings and identify any possible accomplices.
