The National Union of Isoko Students (NUIS) Worldwide has launched a scathing attack on the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, over his recent comments on Channels Television concerning electricity supply in Isoko Nation.
Aniagwu, during an interview on Channels Television, was said to have downplayed growing agitations by Isoko youths and residents over the persistent power outage affecting communities across Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas.
Reacting in a strongly worded rebuttal statement signed by NUIS Worldwide President, Precious Idebe, and Secretary, Koko Divine, the student body described the commissioner’s claims that Isoko enjoys steady electricity supply as “false, misleading and completely disconnected from the harsh realities faced daily by the people.”
The union said communities across Isoko land remain in prolonged darkness, forcing many students to rely on candle lights and lanterns while preparing for examinations and academic activities.
According to the statement, the worsening electricity situation has also crippled small businesses and subjected families to heavy financial burdens through dependence on generators and other costly alternatives.
“It is deeply painful and unacceptable that while Isoko students continue to suffer academically under these conditions, the commissioner chooses to appear on national television and social media platforms to propagate what can only be described as blatant falsehoods in defence of a government that has failed to provide basic amenities to the Isoko people,” the statement read.
The students’ body expressed disappointment that despite Isoko’s enormous contribution to Nigeria’s oil economy, the region continues to suffer neglect in critical infrastructure.
“It is even more disheartening considering the enormous contributions of Isoko Nation to the economic survival of Nigeria.
“Isoko land hosts over 100 oil wells and contributes millions of barrels of crude oil to the nation, yet our people continue to live without one of the most basic necessities of modern society,” the union stated.
NUIS insisted that contrary to Aniagwu’s claims, Isoko does not enjoy stable electricity supply, stressing that no amount of media propaganda can erase the suffering being experienced by residents.
The union further called on the Delta State government to retract the statement made on Channels Television and conduct what it described as an honest and transparent assessment of the electricity situation across Isoko communities.

The students also urged the government to engage community leaders, youth groups and student bodies to obtain accurate reports on the realities on ground, while demanding immediate intervention to restore stable power supply in the area.
In a more direct demand, the union asked the commissioner to tender an unreserved apology to the people of Isoko for allegedly misleading the public and trivialising the plight of residents.
“Failing this, he should honourably resign his position with immediate effect,” the statement added.
The union maintained that it would continue to speak against perceived injustice and hold government officials accountable over issues affecting Isoko students and the wider population.
