The Management of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, has imposed curfew within the institution from 11 pm to 4 am over robbery attacks.
It also denied any case of rape during the robbery attack that recently happened at the off-campus residence of its students.
In a signed statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Public Relations, Sola Abiala, explained that an increase in cases of armed robbery in the town was observed but not to the extent of how it was being portrayed.
The statement explained that the Rector and Deputy Rector of the institution had a meeting with some stakeholders on the issue. It was established at the meeting that students had disrespect for the rules, regulations, and customs of the polytechnic and that of the host community.
According to the statement: “The involvement of disgruntled students, especially some rusticated or withdrawn students who neither live in Ilaro nor surrender their identity cards, was prominently noticeable, The Trumpet gathered.
“Students are in the habits of night crawling, display of affluence through expensive phones and gadgets, engaging in advance fee fraud practices, otherwise known as yahoo- yahoo, and use of generators for almost 24 hours daily.

“The restriction of movement between 11 pm and 4 am, especially by students, is put in place with immediate effect. Students should always have their identity cards with them at all times.
“There is an increase in armed robbery cases in the town, but not as escalated as it’s being reported. There are no established cases of rapes being widely reported in the media, especially the social media platforms.
“That all generators should be switched off latest by 11 pm. That institution’s management should not only publish the names of rusticated, dismissed or withdrawn students but their pictures should be widely publicised.”
