Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Thursday commended President Bola Tinubu and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi, for their commitment to addressing insecurity in the country.
Gov. Yusuf spoke while declaring open the 20th North-West Zonal Directors Conference of the DSS organised by the Kano State Command in Kano.
The governor described the conference as an important platform for security chiefs in the region to review security challenges, share experiences and strengthen collaboration against emerging threats.
He said Kano State, as the most populous and cosmopolitan state in the North-West, places high priority on security because challenges in neighbouring states often have direct effects on the state.
Gov. Yusuf recalled the recent abduction of the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, Hamza Musa Durba, saying the victim was rescued through an intelligence-led operation coordinated by the DSS.
He added that suspects linked to the incident were arrested on March 26, 2026.
According to the governor, the operation demonstrated the professionalism and effectiveness of security agencies, particularly the DSS.
“We have continued to support security agencies with logistics and equipment in recognition of their efforts in protecting lives and property,” he said.
The governor also noted that the interception of arms and ammunition by security operatives had helped to curb the activities of violent groups in the state and neighbouring areas.

Gov. Yusuf praised Tinubu for what he described as the federal government’s determination to secure the country, adding that the administration’s support had strengthened the resolve of security agencies.
He also commended the DSS director-general, saying Ajayi had worked tirelessly to improve collaboration among security agencies and sustain peace across the country.
“The president made the right choice in appointing him. His efforts towards ensuring peace and harmony in the country are commendable,” Gov. Yusuf added.
The governor, however, said Kano State was still facing threats such as banditry, farmers-herders clashes, cyberbullying and the activities of criminal gangs.
