Nigerian social commentator Isaac Fayose has reacted strongly to the exit of Peter Obi from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the party’s failure to zone its presidential ticket to the South cost it dearly.

In a live video on Instagram, Fayose criticised the party’s leadership, claiming efforts were made to persuade Atiku Abubakar and the party’s executives, reportedly led by David Mark, to adopt a southern candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, zoning the presidency to the South was the most strategic move, arguing that presenting a northern candidate at this time would weaken the party’s chances.

“Bye-bye to ADC. We tried to convince them to zone the presidency to the South. That is the right thing to do because it is the turn of the South,” Fayose said.

He further stated that the party’s refusal to adjust its political strategy contributed to what he described as its “decline,” adding that party strength depends heavily on timely and smart decisions.

Fayose also hinted at a new political realignment, throwing his weight behind a potential alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“Obi–Kwankwaso ticket is okay for me. They already look like the rescue team. Now that Obi has left, ADC will realise it was not about the party, but about the force he brought,” he added.
