The federal government has disbursed over N48billion to vulnerable households in Kano State under its Household Prosperity and Empowerment – Conditional Cash Transfer programme.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, disclosed this on Monday during an engagement with beneficiaries at Unguwa Uku Model Primary School in Tarauni Local Government Area of the state.
Doro said the intervention, which covered all the 44 local government areas in Kano, recorded a cumulative disbursement of N48,130,875,000 in three tranches.
He said N19.6bn was released in the first tranche, N14.5bn in the second, while N13.9bn was disbursed in the third tranche, with each beneficiaries getting a sum of N75,000.
According to the minister, the visit was to assess the impact of the programme and interact directly with beneficiaries.
“This is not a ceremonial visit. I am here to assess what this programme is doing on the ground and to ensure that what we design at the national level translates into real impact,” he said.
Doro added that the programme was part of a broader policy framework aimed at strengthening social protection and ensuring coordinated poverty reduction interventions.
He said the initiative was being repositioned into a structured system that would enable beneficiaries transition from dependency to self-reliance.

He also advised beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously to improve their livelihoods.
In her remarks, the Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Amina Abdullahi, said the minister’s visit underscored the federal government’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians.
She said the programme aligned with the state government’s efforts to improve the socio-economic conditions of residents.
Abdullahi added that the state government had also empowered 5,200 women with N50,000 monthly grants to support small businesses, alongside the provision of food items to 500 families during the International Day of Families.
She said the cash transfer initiative had continued to make a difference in the lives of beneficiaries, particularly women and vulnerable groups.
