An Uber driver has been apprehended after allegedly absconding with an iPhone 16 entrusted to him for delivery in Lagos, following the cancellation of a trip midway.
The incident came to public attention after an X user, identified as Ashake (@Molayoo_), raised the alarm on Saturday, tagging Uber and sharing details of the transaction.
“Uber, one of your riders in Lagos picked up a package (an iPhone 16) from Egbeda to be delivered to Ikeja, but cancelled the ride midway and has been unreachable ever since. This is someone’s business, we need the package,” she wrote.
The situation later escalated as efforts to track the driver proved successful.
Providing an update on Thursday, Ashake disclosed that the suspect, identified as Augustine Adimabua, had been located and handed over to authorities. She further alleged that the driver sold the device, valued at over ₦1 million, for ₦400,000.

“He has been caught and handed over to the appropriate authorities. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this possible,” she said.
In videos circulating online, the suspect admitted to receiving the device.
“I agree he gave me an iPhone 16, 256GB, worth about ₦1.2 million,” he said.
However, he claimed the phone had been stolen, a statement that was met with skepticism during a tense confrontation captured on video. Witnesses accused him of dishonesty, while a woman believed to be his wife appeared visibly distressed by the situation.
The incident has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users sharing similar experiences involving missing deliveries and calling for stricter accountability measures within ride-hailing and logistics services.
