The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has revealed that he sought spiritual guidance before accepting his appointment to lead Nigeria’s electoral body.
Speaking on his decision, Amupitan said his acceptance was not based solely on personal judgment, but on a conviction shaped by faith and a sense of divine direction.
He described the position as a critical national responsibility, noting that managing elections in Nigeria requires strong moral grounding and a commitment to fairness.

According to him, his decision to take on the role was driven by a duty to serve with integrity at a time when credible elections remain vital to the country’s democratic stability.
Amupitan also pledged to promote transparency and fairness in the electoral process, while working to rebuild public trust in Nigeria’s elections.
