The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, has arrested and commenced investigations into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, for alleged possession and use of a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.
Anoruo, who runs a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, following a petition-related investigation that exposed inconsistencies in documents he submitted to the anti-graft agency.
According to EFCC findings, the case began after Anoruo filed a petition dated September 22, 2025, on behalf of his clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
However, investigators later discovered that both the petition and a subsequent Letter of Withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, carried a suspected forged NBA seal.
During interrogation, Anoruo allegedly admitted that the seal was obtained from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.

He further disclosed that although he obtained a law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) through evening programmes, he did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for qualification as a legal practitioner in Nigeria.
The EFCC confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The case adds to growing concerns over impersonation and document forgery within professional circles in Nigeria, particularly in the legal sector.
