The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers linked to a series of attacks on residents in Ughelli and its environs, recovering items believed to have been used in their operations.
The arrests followed multiple complaints from residents over the activities of a criminal syndicate accused of attacking unsuspecting victims, inflicting injuries with cutlasses, and dispossessing them of motorcycles.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Edafe Bright, made this known in a statement issued on Monday, noting that, police operatives attached to the Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, carried out coordinated raids between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. on April 20, 2026, in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Kingdom Vigilantes.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, identified as Surajo Atar, 25, from Bigal Village in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Abba Musa, 24, from Madara Village in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State; and Babangida Yusuf, 25, from Hamdullahi Village in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State.
Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest, include a cutlass and a black mask, which police believe were used in carrying out their criminal activities.

Further investigation led to the arrest of a fourth suspect, Abdurasheed Shafiu, 31, at the Trailer Park area, along Sapele Road in Warri.
He was identified as a receiver of stolen motorcycles and reportedly confessed to purchasing the items from the gang.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, said investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover stolen property.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies.
