Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, professionally known as Simi, has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most influential female voices in contemporary music. Her journey reflects resilience, artistic evolution, and a steady rise from humble beginnings to international recognition.

Born on April 19, 1988, in Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos State, Simi is the youngest of four children. Raised in a Christian household, she developed an early interest in music through church choir participation and childhood songwriting.

Following the separation of her parents at an early age, she drew emotional strength from her experiences—an influence that later shaped the sincerity and depth of her music.

Simi attended Stars International College, Ikorodu, for her secondary education before proceeding to Covenant University, Ogun State, where she studied Mass Communication. Her academic training played a significant role in refining her storytelling ability and lyrical composition.

She officially launched her music career in 2008 with a gospel project titled Ogaju. However, her mainstream breakthrough came in 2014 with the release of the hit single Tiff, which earned her critical acclaim and a nomination at The Headies Awards.

Her growing popularity led to a record deal with X3M Music, under which she released notable projects including Love Don’t Care and the collaborative EP Chemistry with Falz.

In 2017, Simi released her self-titled album Simisola, a project that received widespread praise and appeared on the Billboard World Albums chart. The album solidified her status as one of the most distinctive voices in Afropop and R&B.

In 2019, she took a bold step by establishing her own label, Studio Brat, granting her full creative control over her music direction.

Under her independent imprint, she released projects such as Omo Charlie Champagne Vol. 1 and To Be Honest (TBH). Her 2020 single Duduke, inspired by her pregnancy, became a viral anthem across Africa and beyond.

Simi is married to Nigerian singer and songwriter Adekunle Gold. The couple got married in January 2019 after maintaining a largely private relationship. In May 2020, they welcomed their first child, a daughter and twins in early January 2026.

They are widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most admired celebrity couples, known for their supportive partnership and low-profile lifestyle.

Throughout her career, Simi has received multiple nominations and accolades from major award platforms including: The Headies Awards, City People Music Awards, Nigeria Entertainment Awards

She continues to be recognized for her consistency, vocal strength, and lyrical storytelling.

Simi’s sound blends Afropop, R&B, and soul, giving her a unique identity in the Nigerian music industry. Her songwriting often explores love, identity, and social themes, earning her a loyal audience across Africa and internationally.

From her roots in Ojuelegba to global recognition, Simi’s career reflects steady growth, creative independence, and emotional authenticity. As she continues to evolve under her own label, she remains a defining voice in modern Nigerian music and a major influence on the next generation of artists.
