A rumor circulating online about the potential postponement of Big Brother Naija has sparked significant reactions, with many Nigerians attributing the speculation to the country’s deteriorating economic situation.

The speculation began with a post from @n6oflife6 on X (formerly Twitter), which claimed that soaring costs, particularly diesel prices reaching ₦2,000 per litre, escalating food prices, and diminished sponsor funding could complicate the usual 90-day format of the reality show featuring around 30 contestants.

The post included a statement highlighting the challenges: “Diesel is ₦2k per litre… Sponsors are cash-strapped… It won’t be easy to house and feed 30 grown adults for 90 days in this economy.”

The rumor has sparked discussions about Nigeria’s economic realities, with many users citing inflation, high energy costs, and decreasing purchasing power as pressing issues.

@Sammyincredibl remarked that “BBNaija aired during the last elections, and we asked for a postponement, but they refused. Now they’re postponing it this year because of the APC economy. Play first.”

@ThatcruiseMagic commented: “I can’t remember the last time I subscribed to cable. I’m now in survival mode; this government has made basic necessities feel like luxuries. Maybe the city boys’ movement, aka ‘money na water,’ can fund them.”

@AlhajiAget stated, “they’ve postponed Big Brother Naija. Many Nigerians can barely afford DSTV subscriptions, sponsors are short on cash, and diesel is now about 2k per litre. It’s tough to house and feed 30 adults for 90 days in this economy. The organizers are feeling the pinch.”

However, some dismissed the rumor as premature, noting that BBNaija has consistently adhered to its annual schedule despite economic challenges.

@whehema pointed out that “why are you looking for BBNaija in April? You’re so eager to watch that you don’t realize it usually starts in July.”

While some argue that hosting such a large-scale production may be financially difficult in the current climate, others maintain that the show is a significant revenue source for broadcasters and sponsors.

For now, BBNaija fans are encouraged to regard the postponement rumors as unverified, as anticipation grows for an expected announcement in mid-year.

This story is based on trending discussions on social media and may be updated as more information emerges.

Despite the increasing chatter, there has been no official confirmation from MultiChoice, DStv Nigeria, or the BBNaija organizers regarding any postponement.

The last season of the show concluded in October 2025, with Imisi as the winner, while Season 11 is widely anticipated to premiere around its usual late July timeframe.
