Youth members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have announced plans to stage protests at offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa States today, calling for the removal of the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.

The protest, organised under the hashtag #AmupitanMustGo, is part of a growing campaign by the party’s youth wing demanding leadership changes within the electoral body.

The ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, made this known in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

He also released promotional materials for the demonstrations in Lagos and Ogun, both branded as “Operation Occupy INEC.”

According to Rufai, the Lagos protest will commence at 8:00 a.m., with participants converging at Yaba College of Technology, while the Ogun State protest is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) office in Abeokuta.

The planned demonstrations follow a similar protest staged in Abuja on April 8, by prominent opposition figures, also tagged: “Occupy INEC.”

Notable personalities present at the Abuja protest included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and PDP chieftain, Dino Melaye.

The latest move by ADC youths signals rising political tensions ahead of future electoral activities, with calls for reforms within the nation’s electoral system gaining momentum.
