Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has submitted a list of five nominees to the state House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as pioneer commissioners of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC).

The move represents a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to build a robust electricity regulatory framework, following recent reforms aimed at improving governance and efficiency in the power sector.

The nominees are Ubong Etokudoh, proposed as commissioner for engineering; Valerie Okon Obot for finance and corporate services; Mr. Paul Okon for economic regulations; Kalu Ukoha for policy planning and innovation, and Ms. Arit Okon Uya for stakeholder engagement and consumer affairs.

Etokudoh currently serves as a deputy manager at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), while Obot is the pioneer permanent secretary in the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Power.

Paul Okon works as a commercial manager at the Ibom Power Company Limited.

Ukoha has been tipped to oversee policy planning and innovation, and Uya, an assistant general manager at NERC, is expected to handle stakeholder engagement and consumer affairs.

If approved by the state House of Assembly, the nominees will form the inaugural leadership of AKSERC, the state’s new regulatory body tasked with overseeing electricity operations and compliance.

The establishment of the commission is widely seen as a strategic institutional milestone that will enhance regulatory oversight, strengthen electricity market operations, and support broader reforms in Akwa Ibom’s power sector.
