The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended the principal suspect linked to the brutal killing of a 45 year old man in Igbo Imabana Village, Abi Local Government Area.
The deceased, identified as Egbegi Elegbo Enya, was reportedly hacked to death with a machete on April 10, 2026.
The incident was reported to the police the following morning by the deceased’s elder brother, prompting a swift response from security operatives.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, preliminary findings indicate that the suspect, Emereze Gabriel Okoro, allegedly carried out the attack alongside other individuals who are currently at large.
Detectives who visited the scene evacuated the victim’s body and deposited it at the General Hospital mortuary in Itigidi for preservation and autopsy.

The command described the arrest of the suspect, who initially fled after the incident, as a major breakthrough in the investigation.
He is currently in custody and assisting the police with ongoing inquiries.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for other suspected accomplices, with the police assuring that all those involved in the crime will be brought to justice.
The command also reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state and urged residents to remain calm while supporting ongoing investigations with useful information.
