The Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai has dismissed viral reports alleging heavy casualties during a recent terrorist attack on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State.

In a statement issued by its Media Information Officer, Sani Uba, the command described the reports circulating on social media and some television platforms as false, exaggerated, and misleading.

According to the theatre command, several images and videos being shared in connection with the incident are unrelated and were deliberately used to misinform the public.

The military specifically refuted claims that 17 soldiers, including a brigade commander, were killed in the attack. It clarified that the official figures released by the Defence Headquarters confirmed the deaths of two officers and two soldiers.

Operation Hadin Kai also dismissed reports suggesting that the brigade commander’s vehicle was unserviceable. It explained that the commander operated from a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, which was only temporarily immobilised during the engagement, while he continued to direct operations.

The command stated that troops successfully repelled the attack, retained control of their position, and forced the insurgents to retreat, describing the outcome as a sign of sustained pressure on terrorist groups in the North-East.

It further condemned what it termed the politicisation and manipulation of security incidents, urging the public to rely on verified information from official sources.
The military reaffirmed the professionalism of the Armed Forces, stressing that personnel remain committed to defending the country and sustaining ongoing counterterrorism operations.
