Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr, born Sarah Aderibigbe, has spoken about her personal spiritual journey, describing her faith as individual, flexible, and not strictly defined by organised religious practice.
In a recent livestream conversation with TikToker Jarvis, the singer discussed her relationship with God, explaining that her spirituality is guided more by personal conviction than formal religious structures.
Ayra Starr said her aspiration is to live in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ, noting that she is “trying to be as perfect as Jesus,” while emphasising that her faith is shaped by personal growth and moral values rather than rigid religious observance.
She added that her connection with God and the Holy Spirit is not limited to church attendance, but is expressed through daily living and personal experience.
“I have a close relationship with God and the Holy Spirit and it doesn’t come with me only being in church. God says let it be unto you according to your faith. I have found a way that works for me,” she said.

The singer noted that her current outlook reflects her present stage in life, adding that she remains open to spiritual growth and change as her experiences evolve.
Beyond her reflections on faith, Ayra Starr also revealed a new direction in her creative career, confirming her entry into acting. She disclosed that she began exploring film production last year and is currently working toward releasing her debut movie later this year.
The development marks a major expansion of her career beyond music, where she has become one of Nigeria’s most successful young artists under Mavin Records.
Her transition into film signals a broader move into the wider entertainment industry, as she continues to build a cross-sector creative profile.
