The ex-Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and former Vice-Chancellor of the Bayero University Kano, Prof. Attahiru Jega, was thrown into mourning Sunday, following the death of his wife, Hadiza Attahiru Jega.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the university expressed deep sorrow, announcing her passing with prayers and submission to the will of Allah.
According to the statement, her Janazah (funeral prayer) is scheduled to take place after the Zuhr prayer at the National Mosque, Abuja, today, April 5, 2026.

Confirming the development, the institution’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, described her death as a painful loss.
He noted that she would be laid to rest in Abuja and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon her soul.
Tributes have continued to pour in from scholars, associates, and well-wishers, as family and friends remember her life and legacy as a devoted wife and mother.
